Carrier: Delta Air Lines Flight Number: 1584 Date & Time of Incident: 01/12/2016 Type of Incident: Death Description of Animal: Breed: Golden Retriever Description of Incident: A Golden Retriever was accepted in Rochester, NY (ROC) for transport to Portland, OR (PDX) with a transfer and overnight kenneling in Atlanta, GA (ATL). The canine was accepted in apparent good health with all documentation present. The canine arrived in Atlanta, GA and was transferred to kenneling services for overnight stay until the next flight to Portland,OR the next day. The kennel handler was enroute to the Atlanta, GA (ATL) airport when he noticed the animal collapsed at which time he took the animal to veterinary services. It was determined that the Golden Retriever died in the kennel (van service) during transport. Cause of Incident: According to the Necropsy report this dog died due to cardiorespiratory compromise caused by acute gastric dilation. Corrective Action Taken: None taken.
