October 2012 Airline Pet Travel Report
The October, 2012 Airline Pet Travel Report contains pet incidents for the month of August, 2012.
Alaska Airlines reports the injury of a black Labrador Retriever at the SEA-TAC Airport in Seattle, Washington airport. The lab was able to escape its kennel and injured it's paws on the tarmac. The kennel was not secured with zip-ties.
Delta reports the injury of a 5 year-old German Shepherd named Dutchess who injured herself escaping from her kennel while being prepared to board a flight at the LA/Ontario International Airport in Las Angeles, CA. The kennel was secured with zip-ties, but Dutchess was able to chew through them and exit the kennel.
Delta also reports the death of a 13 year-old Labrador Retriever named Toby on a flight from LaGuardia airport, in New York, NY to Atlanta, GA. A second dog on the same flight arrived safely and Toby's owners declined a necropsy report.
United Airlines reports the death of a 15 year-old Chihuahua named Paco on a flight from Houston, TX to Rally-Durham, NC.
United also reports the death of a three year-old Mastiff named Bam Bam during a flight from Huston, TX to San Francisco, CA. A necropsy was performed and the cause of death was diagnosed as acute cardiovascular collapse noting a slight malformation of the tracheal rings and thinning of the muscle tissue between the tracheal rings resulting in tracheal collapse.
